I managed to scare the dickens out of my classmates with this piece. They thought it was done in Maya at first glance, but its actually done entirely with Illustrator 10. But MAN, I had fun doing this!

We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you  the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. Actually, this piece was done as an attempt to see how much I could do with as few tools as possible in Illustrator. The image I used as a template to draw over was from this website- [link] . The trick is that though I really like the design of the car in question (it makes me think of a combination car and boat!
But as for actual production, I used no more than three tools to emulate the form and color of the car in question- the pen tool, the gradient tool, and gaussian blurs. You can do ALOT with these few tools, but the trick is of course that it takes awhile to do. Kinda like watercolor painting. This thing took me 30 hours of in-class work to do. The upside to having spent all that time working on this is that I use hotkeys in Illustrator to select my tools to use without even looking at the keyboard, now.
